A number of farmers who owned trucks began to drive them into the city with loads of vegetables instead of to the nearest railroad station. At the other finish, wholesalers and even retailers began to ship their very own trucks out into the country for loads of produce. The price per mile was greater than for rail shipment, but the delay was much less and terminal prices were eliminated at each ends, so that they no less than broke even on the business. Practically every large business in the cities had a few trucks for drayage and deliveries, and by 1917 most of those have been energy pushed. When town terminals began to choke up, some consignees had their shipments despatched to outlying towns and sent their trucks there to receive them, at the identical time carrying outgoing shipments. Soon, a whole bunch of trucks had been being used in this way, and Trucking dispatch the radius of operation was continually rising.
